Fleet Steps, Mrs Macquaries Point | Sydney Harbour  

 

Situated on the most beautiful harbour in the world, OpenAir is a nightly festival of film and Sydney lifestyle that this summer will run from 10 January to 20 February 2024. We are offering positions to dedicated, outgoing and hardworking individuals with a sense of humour who enjoy working outdoors and are experienced in customer service.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Outstanding communication and customer service skills 
  • Experience working in a fast-paced event, venue, or hospitality environment 
  • Hard working and reliable 
  • Work effectively in a team and independently  
  • Confident and assertive personalities  
  • Ability to problem solve and adapt in a fast paced ever changing environment 
  • Ability to remain calm and work well under pressure 
  • Point of sale experience for bar (ideally including EFT and Lightspeed) 

 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Flexible and able to work a minimum of 3 shifts per week during the season 
  • Bar staff must be 18 years or above and hold a valid RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) 
  • Foreign passport holders must have a current visa and be eligible to work in Australia 
  • All applicants must have an Australian Tax File Number 
  • Enjoy working outdoors, sometimes in extreme conditions!  

 

Casual positions are available in the following areas:  

 

GROUND STAFF  

Ground staff cover majority of the events customer service. Tasks include ushering, ticket scanning, hosting dining areas, crowd management, food and merchandise distribution, event set-up, cleaning, and maintenance of site. This is a busy event committed to customer service excellence, ground staff  are required to actively engage with patrons,  keep up to date and informed of the event’s key messages and easily adapt to the unique requirements of our site and patrons.  

Hours of work:  Between 3-6 shifts per week  usually  starting  from 4.00pm and finishing between 9:00pm and 12:30am. 

Pay: Subject to experience. Amusement, Events, and recreation award (MA000080) Grade 1 – 4 depending on duties and experience.

BAR STAFF  

This is a fast paced, festival bar which requires bartenders to be assertive, articulate, initiative and efficient. Cocktail mixing skills are a bonus! We are also looking for workers who have experience working on a till, in retail and waiting tables. This role requires an elevated level of customer service skills, we expect you to be able to communicate effectively and enhance the guests experience at our event.  

Hours of work:  Between 3-6 shifts per week usually starting from 4:30pm and finishing between 8:00pm and 11:00pm. 

Pay: Hospitality Industry General Award 2010 (MA000009) Level 2 – 3 (depending on duties and experience) food and beverage attendant.

BUMP-IN CREW   

We are additionally looking for crew to assist with the Event installation. We want workers who are physically fit and able to assist in the construction and set-up of the event infrastructure. Experience in event set-up/pack-down or similar  will be advantageous when applying for this position.  

You must have a White Card, steel cap boots, and enjoy working outdoors.  

Bump-in will run from the beginning of December to the Beginning of January with a break over Christmas and New Year's.  

Pay: Subject to experience. Amusement, Events, and recreation award (MA000080) Grade 1 –4 depending on duties and experience.

 TICKETING STAFF  

Ticketing staff will deal with the public as well as VIPs and must be confident in communicating and troubleshooting in a small but busy Call Centre and/or a box office environment. You will bring your experience in a ticketing, retail, or hospitality environment to the role to enhance our customers’ initial impressions. 

Hours of operation:  9am - 5pm, late November until early January; then 9am – 9pm until late February. Please indicate the number of weekly hours you would like to work when you submit your application. Note that we operate 7 days a week during the season (10 Jan – 20 Feb 2024). 

Pay: Broadcasting, Recorded Entertainment and Cinemas Award 2020 (MA000091), Cinema Worker Level 2 – Level 4 depending on duties and experience.
