From Italian maestro Paolo Sorrentino (THE GREAT BEAUTY, YOUTH, LORO, THE HAND OF GOD) comes another work of astonishing imagery and insight.

Where THE GREAT BEAUTY was a tribute to Rome, PARTHENOPE is a homage to Naples. In Greek mythology, Parthenope was a siren who threw herself into the sea and later washed ashore in the Bay of Naples. So it is that when a young woman is born in the same bay in 1950, she is named Parthenope. Parthenope (Celeste Dalla Porta) grows into a captivating young woman, whose intelligence and beauty hold everyone in her thrall. She impressively navigates the complexities of an emotionally volatile family, as well as the endless attention of boys and men, and devotes herself to the study of anthropology. Through tragedy and successes, lost and found loves, Parthenope remains dedicated to the singular beauty of Naples, and its many memorable characters, but also its uneasy mix of religion, crime and class.
