As we eagerly anticipate the release of a new chapter in the Bridget Jones saga on 12 February, it’s time to brush up on Bridget 101. The story began in 2001 with Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger), a single woman in her 30s, doing her best to navigate self-improvement, love, and career struggles. She documents her journey in a diary, aiming to lose weight, quit smoking, and find true love. Caught between two men – desirable but distant Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and unreliable deviant Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) – Bridget learns to embrace her imperfections and build self-worth. It remains a hilarious commentary on modern womanhood, and Zellweger, Firth and Grant are all divine.
