We’re thrilled to open our 2025 season with the first Australian screening of a remarkable film.
From the moment Timothée Chalamet appears on screen, it’s hard to remove your gaze from his outstanding portrayal of a young Bob Dylan – a fledgling guitar player and songwriter with the talent to influence the course of music, if not the world.
Set in the creative hotbed of 1960s New York, A COMPLETE UNKNOWN is filled with musical performances that reach to the heart, gorgeous period sets, and mesmerising fashion. But more than that, it’s the story of an extraordinary talent on the rise. Arriving in New York as a 19-year-old unknown from Minnesota, Dylan quickly establishes himself among folk circles as the voice of a generation. His songs and mystique become a worldwide sensation, however just as quickly his boundless creativity has him reaching for new directions.
Director James Mangold (WALK THE LINE) has created another fascinating perspective on a musical great, and Chalamet’s portrayal of Dylan is utterly seductive. He is wonderfully supported by Elle Fanning, Edward Norton and Monica Barbaro.
