The Sydney to Hobart yacht race occupies a rare place in Sydney and Australian cultural history. It is part of our holiday vernacular. One of the great ocean yacht races commences in our backyard on Boxing Day and for several days, between trips to the beach and over seafood lunches, we follow the crusade south. We follow the race among the boats and the sailors, but we also follow the weather, worried for what lies ahead in Bass Strait.
Perhaps more than any other sporting endeavour, nature is the ultimate governor of this race. True South documents that epic journey by following friends Herman Winning, Nathan Dean and Peter Dean as they race the Sydney to Hobart, honouring Nathan’s and Peter’s father lost in the 1998 disaster. Marking 25 years since the tragedy, their journey explores grief, legacy, and resilience in the face of nature’s fury, capturing powerful bonds of family, friendship, and memory.
A spectacle to behold on Sydney Harbour!
