One of the great adventures of French literature returns to the screen in an extraordinary production, and we’re thrilled to host the Australian Premiere in association with the Alliance Française French Film Festival.

Alexandre Dumas’ epic THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO is a mesmerising tale of romance and redemption. The story begins in Marseilles in 1815, where the dreams of principled young sailor Edmond are about to come true; promoted to ship’s captain, he can finally marry the love of his life. However, betrayed by his rivals, Edmond is arrested at his wedding and unfairly incarcerated without trial. When a cellmate reveals the location of a hidden treasure on the island of Monte Cristo, an extraordinary plan is hatched to escape and exact revenge on the three men who wronged him. Assuming multiple identities – “the Count of Monte Cristo” among them – Edmond will first court his enemies and then seek retribution.

A gripping and lavish period piece that will fill the big screen on the harbour with colour and daring ado in equal measure.
