Good Luck to You, Leo Grande

Good Luck to You, Leo Grande is a rare and wonderful film, where Director Sophie Hyde brings her two characters to life in an utterly plausible way, while exploring sex, ageing and body issues.

Nancy Stokes (Emma Thompson), a retired schoolteacher and widow, is yearning for adventure, human connection, and good sex. Whilst her husband provided a home, a family, and something resembling a life, good sex was never on offer and with her husband out of the picture, Nancy seeks adventure and satisfaction with sex worker, Leo Grande (Daryl McCormack). Leo looks every bit as good as his picture, but what Nancy wasn’t expecting was conversation as well as fornication. Over the course of three rendezvous, the power dynamics shift, and their well-worn masks begin to slip and as Nancy’s inhibitions are slowly peeled away, both characters’ are revealed.
