Kate Winslet is remarkable in her portrayal of Lee Miller, a woman who herself lived an astonishing life, refusing to bow to gender stereotypes. American-born, prior to the Second World War, Miller was a model and photographer who lived in France and Egypt, working and fraternising with artists including Man Ray. When war broke out, she fought gender discrimination to become a front-line war correspondent. Her singular talent and ferocious tenacity gave us some of the 20th century’s most indelible images, a woman’s view of the conflict and its casualties. Ellan Kuras’ story of Miller’s life is a wonderful tribute to an extraordinary life.
“Lee is beautiful, daring, and elusive, as all great art should be. It’s a fitting tribute to a woman whose work exhibited the same qualities.” – Film Threat
“Filmed in England, Hungary and Croatia, Lee is a vivid and unforgettable tribute to one of the bold women who devoted her life to the penetration of male dominance to change the way we see the world. Don’t even think about missing it.” – Observer
